ABOUT

Areola restoration is a 3D tattoo procedure to replicate the areola and nipple. This technique is for anyone who may have had total loss, irregularity or inconsistency in their areola and nipples after any type of breast reconstructive surgery. Scar Camouflage is also available for those who have had breast augmentations.

Areola restoration is a soft and hyper realistic, non-invasive permanent work of art that should restore beauty and be undetectable. The results and longevity of your tattoo will depend greatly on how you take care of your areola's during the healing process and beyond. Each client’s skin will respond differently, both in the length of time it takes to heal, and the number of sessions needed for your desired results and color retention. This information acts as a guideline only, and we cannot guarantee your results.

DAY OF THE PROCEDURE

Make sure you have had a good breakfast or lunch. It’s important for you to be comfortable and relaxed. Wear a loose sports bra and a 2 piece outfit. I will provide a disposable robe but you might be more comfortable with your jeans or slacks on to keep you warm. Although there usually is no pain, I will provide a topical anesthetic. If you have a list of prescription medicines, please be ready to provide the list for your consent paperwork.  I will provide you with your post procedure care and a few non-stick gauze pads to get started.

THE PROCESS

When you come into the office, it doesn’t matter if you have old work that needs a color boost, color  correction or you are a fresh canvas ready for color. Together we will decide the best options. During the color audition, you will also discuss areola. Reconstructed nipples or not, we will focus on shape, highlights and shadows. You may choose the addition of Montgomery bumps or not. If you have a pre-mastectomy photo, you may bring it to help recreate your original look, if you want. There will be a set of 3 appointments. The first will be a consultation where we will color match you and color test some spot to see retention and how you take ink. The second will be the fill Areola Restoration application. The last appointment will be a follow-up/touch-up if needed.

POST PROCEDURE

When you get home, you can remove the bandages.

You will need to wash areola's before bed with luke warm water and unscented soap or cleanser. Apply the aftercare that is given to you, in a thin layer after cleaning. Make sure hands are clean before you touch your tattoos and before you wash them. Repeat in the morning. You will continue this for 7 days minimum. Please remember this is a new tattoo and should be cared for like an open wound. Do not over saturate with aftercare balm and lotions. You don’t want to let the area get too dried out either. You will switch to unscented lotion for 2 weeks, such as lubriderm or cetaphil, after your 7 days of aftercare balm. Limit the wear of a tight bra for the first 48 hours, you will need to let the area breathe as much as possible during the healing process.

AFTER YOU HEAL

If we choose to follow up and do a little perfecting, there is no charge for that. I like to wait 8 weeks for the skin to recover from the original procedure.

Areola tattoos normally last many years depending on lifestyle, skin type and aftercare.

Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment. Once completely healed, always apply sunscreen (50 spf or greater) on the area if exposed.

Avoid using chemical exfoliants on the areola, as it will cause fading.
Do not do laser near your areola tattoo area (ipl). Some lasers may change the color of the ink.

Additional touch ups may be needed after a few years to keep them looking fresh, bold and 3d
